SITUATION
-
Building 7 of the Alexandria VA Healthcare System in Alexandria, Louisiana, required a complete roof replacement covering approximately 67,100 square feet across 29 roof sections.
-
The project involved removing the existing built-up roofing system down to the structural concrete deck and installing new insulation, cover boards, and a TPO membrane. The scope also included replacement of the existing roof drains and lightning protection system to support long-term facility reliability.
CHALLENGES
-
Coordinating replacement across 29 roof sections required careful planning of roof removal and installation activities. The scope involved multiple components, from the existing roofing and structural deck to drainage and lightning protection.
-
Work at a healthcare facility also required attention to site safety, security, and compliance requirements. Consistent project management was essential to coordinate the roofing work and related system replacements across the different roof areas.
SOLUTIONS AND RESULTS
- PAX Services Group removed the existing built-up roofing down to the structural concrete deck. The new system included a 1-inch ISO insulation layer secured with insulation adhesive, topped with a 1/2-inch DensDeck cover board, and finished with an 80-mil TPO membrane installed with bonding adhesive.
- The team also removed and replaced all existing roof drains and the lightning protection system, addressing these components as part of the roofing project.
- Completed in 2025, the improvements renewed the building’s roofing infrastructure across 29 roof sections. Together, the new roofing, drainage, and lightning protection components support long-term weather protection and operational reliability.
